The Harris Hill Volunteer Fire Company hosted an Ice/Cold Water Rescue Technician class this weekend. This 16-hour advanced-level ice rescue training taught by the New York State Office of Fire Prevention & Control included self-rescue, shore-based ice rescue techniques, and go ice rescue techniques. It also addressed the effects of cold water on victims, offshore techniques, and ice rescue equipment. The class allowed firefighters to train on techniques to help remove and treat victims who may have fallen through ice on ponds or lakes. We had the privilege of training with firefighters from all over Erie County, including some from our surrounding departments: Clarence Center, Clarence, and Main Transit.
